From there it is a short jump to baseball and a deep dive into The Natural, both the Bernard Malamud novel of 1952 and the 1984 movie starring Robert Redford, whose performance I am critical of.
Reflecting on the sentimentality of that movie leads to a discussion of resentment as an oppositional force to sentiment and their respective influence on how we think about the past and the relationships in our lives.
